Mountain rescue saves twice disoriented on the absamic via ferrata
On October 5, 2024, two young men experienced a dramatic situation during a mountain tour on the Absamer via ferrata. While the afternoon sun slowly went down, a violent snowfall suddenly spread at the heights of the Tyrolean mountains, which severely restricted the view. The 24-year-old German and his 21-year-old friend from Israel had been on the via ferrata for many hours at the time.
The two had started their tour at 11 a.m. and made it to the climbing dough, which they reached at 5:40 p.m. But the bad weather conditions and exhaustion were difficult for them. As the State Police Directorate Tyrol announced, the snow cover was more than 30 centimeters high and made the descent extremely complicated.
emergency call in an emergency
Since they were in an exhausted and disoriented state, they decided to make an emergency call around 5:50 p.m. This decision was particularly important because without help they were no longer able to get off or find the via ferrata.
The mountain rescue Hall reacted quickly to the emergency call and was able to find the two mountaineers unscathed in the area of exit a short time later. After a first aid it turned out that despite the tense situation, they had not suffered serious injuries. The mountain rescuers then brought them safely to the nearby begging hut, where they could recover.
This rescue operation once again illustrates the risks associated with mountain tours, especially in the event of sudden change in weather. Mountains should always be aware of the dangers and, if in doubt, request help in good time so as not to put yourself and others in danger.
