Ten years ago: Computeria Imst strengthens digital education for seniors

a decade ago, the Computeria opened its doors at the Bhak/Has Imst to become an important point of contact for digital support. This project, which was launched in cooperation with "Mitinand in Imst", has received over 1,000 visitors there in the past ten years. Older people in particular are offered a helping hand in digital challenges, such as emails, social media and online banking. Most younger people can easily cope with these technologies, but for seniors the digital world is often new territory that needs to be conquered.

The Computeria was initiated as a showcase project in Tyrol in 2012 to facilitate senior citizens to use new media. Every year there are learning and meeting options that should help the older generations not to lose connection to the digital world. On November 5, the anniversary celebration for the tenth birthday took place in the BHAK/HAS IMST. The afternoon was filled with a cozy get -together with bread rolls, cakes and coffee, under the motto "Learn with an emotion for 10 years".

a special cooperation

The close cooperation between the Bhak Imst and "Mitinand in Imst" has proven to be very successful. The project started in the school rooms on November 4, 2014, and the official opening took place in January 2015. This initiative was the first computeria to be founded at a school. The school and the project benefit from the resources made available, including computers and other technical equipment, supported by the state and the Sparkasse Imst.

In recent years, Computeria took place every Tuesday before the pandemic interrupted the program. It is currently offered once a month from October to May. In recent years there have also been keynote speeches on topics such as Parkster app or digital office that are extremely useful for the elderly. However, this is not just about digital questions, but also about valuable interpersonal contacts that arise during the meetings.

a win for everyone

The special thing about the computeria is the mutual benefit. Students: Inside, the maintenance of the computers takes over and learn to deepen their technical skills. This type of learning is extremely important, both for the students: inside and for the older participants: inside. Harald Schaber, the founding school director, highlights the win-win situation, which is created by the exchange between the generations. City Councilor Richard Aichwalder emphasizes that it is not only about learning new technologies, but also about social participation in older people and fighting loneliness.

The celebration of the anniversary ended with the awarding of small gifts to the initiator: inside and the volunteer team. This not only celebrated the ten -year success story of the Computeria, but also recognized the positive exchange between younger and the elderly. This initiative has long established itself as an integral part of social life in Imst, and its importance in the future will be underlined more than ever.
