Surf Opening 2025: Austria becomes a water sports paradise!

Vienna, Österreich - A bitter turn for the popular surf opening: The event that normally takes place at Lake Neusiedler will be celebrated in numerous places all over Austria in 2025. Organizer Gerhard Polak announced that 35 locations could already be available and the list could continue to grow. "The goal is to inspire visitors to surf, no matter where - not only in Neusiedl or Podersdorf," said Polak in an interview. The start of the Surf Opening will take place from April 30th to May 4th, with the Vienna City Beach Club on the Neue Donau certainly standing out as the main event location.

"It is no longer up -to -date and also unavailable to build up artificial worlds somewhere," said Polak. In recent years, the event has had a high CO2 balance that Polak now wants to reduce drastically. "In 2016, the event in Podersdorf culminated, but the 4000 tons of CO2 emissions that were created are no longer acceptable," he continued. The event should take place in close cooperation with the locations, whereby the focus is on the potential for water sports. According to Polak, talks with various communities outside the Burgenland are already underway to secure new locations.

The mayor of Neusiedl am See, Lisa Böhm, reacted calmly to the news and emphasized that a summer opening will also take place in her community, which should focus primarily on beach volleyball. "We are working on how exactly it will look," said Böhm. The Surf Opening 2025 not only marks a fresh start for the event, it also offers the opportunity to promote enthusiasm for water sports across the country, says Polak.
