Together into a green future: Kumberg and St. Ruprecht are launching EEGs
Kumberg and St. Ruprecht an der Raab have taken a significant step towards a sustainable energy future. Together with EG Austria, renewable energy communities (EEGs) were created to make it easier for residents and companies to access regional green electricity. This initiative not only means an effective switch to renewable energy sources, but also the chance for cheaper electricity tariffs.
The establishment of these EEGs marks a milestone on the path to energy self-sufficiency for communities. In information events that took place at the beginning of November, the concept of EEGs was presented by the energy experts Thomas Zeinzinger and Stefan Mussger. The public, who showed keen interest, had the opportunity to find out comprehensively about the advantages of membership. Zeinzinger emphasized that members benefit from risk-free access to green electricity from sustainable sources, without the need to change suppliers or make a long-term commitment.
Easy participation for everyone
For just one euro per month, members can benefit from attractive subscription rates, which are currently 10.7 cents per kWh. They also receive benefits through feed-in tariffs. Responsibility and management of the EEGs lie in the hands of EG Austria, which guarantees a transparent and reliable infrastructure. The EEGs are designed as non-profit associations, which offers members security in the handling of their energy supply.
The EEGs receive political support from the mayors of both municipalities. Franz Nöhrer, the mayor of St. Ruprecht an der Raab, expressed himself positively about the committed cooperation with EG Austria and the transparency of the project: “After a year of intensive exploration, it was clear: EG Austria offers our community the most convincing concept for establishing an energy community securely and transparently.” His colleague from Kumberg, Franz Gruber, emphasized the importance of the joint project, which aims to involve citizens and companies on an equal footing in the energy transition process. “Together we will achieve the energy transition and we will all benefit from the same benefits from our energy community,” said Gruber during an information event.
Participation in the EEGs is open to everyone - both private individuals and companies can easily register and take part. Detailed information and future dates for further information events are available on the EG Austria website.
EG Austria itself is a nationwide initiative dedicated to promoting renewable energies. It brings together a large number of energy communities and thus creates a strong network for citizens, companies and communities to actively contribute to the energy transition in Austria. This cooperation ensures that members can benefit from favorable conditions when using renewable energies.
Overall, this project shows the potential of the communities of Kumberg and St. Ruprecht to operate independently and sustainably. The new renewable energy communities could make an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and help reduce dependence on external energy providers. Citizens are called upon to seize this opportunity and actively participate in the energy transition, which could not only make their living environment more environmentally friendly, but also potentially more cost-saving.
