FPO cheered through a record result in Voitsberg - ÖVP and SPÖ lose significantly

The state election in the Voitsberg district brought a surprising result: The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) achieved a remarkable profit of over 20 percent and thus achieved 41.2 percent of the vote. This represents a significant increase and secures the FPÖ first place in the district. At the same time, the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had a decrease of 12 percent and is now 21.2 percent. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) also experienced losses, lost two percentage points and came to 26.7 percent. The small parties, the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) and the Greens, each moved at a similar level with 3.2 percent, while the NEOS were able to grow slightly and have now received 4.5 percent of the votes.

In the constituency, a total of 48 MPs were elected for the Styrian state parliament. In the Voitsberg district, 41,458 people had the right to choose. In addition to the big parties, the Greens, the Neos and the KPÖ also competed, which shapes the political landscape in the district. The result in Stallhofen was particularly striking, where the FPÖ was able to combine almost half of the votes with 49.1 percent.

election applicants and their placements

An important change in the political landscape was the withdrawal of the long -standing member of the state parliament Erwin Dirnberger from the ÖVP. Mayor Klaudia Stroißnig from Geistthal-Södingberg strives to step into his footsteps. On the SPÖ side, the mayor of Bärnbach, Jochen Bocksruker, went into the race, while Stefan Resch from the FPÖ from Rosental also hoped for a mandate. Markus Amreich competed for the Greens from Stallhofen, and Gerhard Pagger represented the KPÖ as the regional top candidate.

The election results in the cities of the district show a mixed picture. In Voitsberg and Köflach, the share of the FPÖ was strongly pronounced with 42.1 and 41.8 percent. In contrast, the SPÖ in Bärnbach achieved an increase of 2.8 percent and reached 43.4 percent, so the city remains a social democratic stronghold. Only in Hirschegg-Pack could the ÖVP keep the lead with 43.0 percent, but the FPÖ also had to accept an increase of 16.5 percent.

reactions to the election results

The reactions to the election results were different. National Councilor and district party chairman Markus Leinfellner from the FPÖ said euphorically: "A sensational result. We have relied on the right topics and the right candidates. You can see that honest work pays off." The top Rosetaler Stefan Resch was also optimistic and believes that the result should enable him to have a state parliamentary mandate.

In contrast, the mood at the SPÖ was rather depressed. Mayor Jochen Bocksruker commented on the situation: "Even if the SPÖ in Bärnbach has made a plus, I cannot be happy because the SPÖ lost in the country. I would only have come up with joy if we had at least a plus."

The choice brought interesting insights into the political preferences of the electorate and shows clear trends that will be important for the future of the parties in the district.
