60 years of education: BG/BRG/Borg Köflach celebrates anniversary!
The BG/BRG/Borg Köflach looks back on an impressive story. With the ceremony under the motto "United Talents" on November 13, the 60th anniversary of this educational institution is celebrated. Gudrun Finder has been the director of the school for eleven years, who has experienced significant development twelve years ago
The beginnings of the school go back to the 1950s when mountain inspector Egon Brahm took the initiative to found a middle school in the Voitsberg district. The collection of 736 registration cards shows the need for educational offers, which finally led to the opening of the Köflach Exposite in 1964.
from the exposite to the independent school
The development from a small exposure to an independent school was closely linked to the leadership of Willibald Mayer, who became director in 1967 and headed the facility until his retirement in the school year 1993/94. On January 1, 1970, the school received its status as an independent educational institution. In the following years there were various changes in the management, which, however, did not reduce the commitment of the school community.
In 2012, the Borg Mio upper school school was founded, which focuses not only to sport, but also scientific education. This decision was made under the direction of Peter Pichler, who also took decisive steps into the digitization of the high school.
new ways in language education
From the school year 2025/26, the school will set new standards with two bilingual classes (bili) by teaching subjects in both German and in English. This is considered by director Finder as a central step towards the internationalization of the school. The implementation of the EU program Erasmus+ should also be connected internationally, which opens up new educational and exchange opportunities.
The linking of languages, MINT subjects and sport is an essential feature that the school offers its students. In recent years, the BG/BRG/Borg Köflach has had significant success in various international competitions and has also been recognized as a certified EU ambassador school.
In order to make the students fit for the digital future, laptops were provided in the lower level, and there are nationwide WiFi at the school. The introduction of the subject of digital basic education ensures that the students learn actively and competently with digital media.
The close cooperation between parents, teachers and student body promotes a lively school community, which is reflected in numerous jointly organized events. The parents' association plays a central role in promoting the school community.
The patchwork story of the BG/BRG/Borg Köflach is characterized by the vision and commitment of many people. Director Gudrun Finder emphasizes: "The ideas and the commitment of many personalities have contributed to the fact that this school is a place where talent can be developed and the future can be designed."
The milestones of this impressive development are diverse, from the founding of the parent association in 1959 to the opening of the digital basic training offer. The support and commitment of everyone involved are and remain the key to the continuous success of this educational institution, which proudly looks back on their past and is optimistic about the future.
