Huge aruntle ensures moments of fright in Austria!
A disturbing phenomenon is enjoying increasing sightings in Austria: the southern Russian tarantula, known as the largest spider in Central Europe, was reported 143 times, with amazing 127 of these sightings being shown with photos. Until the beginning of November, the Nature Conservation Association 102 had clearly confirmed sightings, with the last reports on November 20. Gernot Neuwirth from the Nature Conservation Association told 5 minutes that the spider was sighted in the federal states of Burgenland, Lower Austria, Vienna and Styria.
danger or just a fright?
Although this, like this, that was first described in 1785, is completely harmless for humans, she caused some frightened seconds. In a Facebook post, a woman reported on a sighting in Groß-Enzersdorf, in which even her cat did not trust herself. A Viennese described a similar experience: "We were shocked," she said, after discovering the impressive spider on her house wall. The last sightings took place almost exclusively in basements and garages. Therefore, the nature conservation association is now expecting a rest phase during winter.
This remarkable spider, which is common in the Eurasian steppe and various Eastern European countries, remains a rarity in Austria, but is a fascinating and at the same time a terrifying sight. If you come across the southern Russian tarantula again in spring -like temperatures, you should report the observation on naturbauch.at
