Pusterwald celebrates the opening of the new hydroelectric power plant on the Pusterwaldbach

In the small town of Pusterwald in the Murtal district, a new hydroelectric power plant went into operation on Friday. This system has an output of two megawatts and was developed by Wien Energie. This power plant output can produce as much electricity annually as 3,300 households consume. This decision to build the Pusterwaldbach hydroelectric power plant not only pursues economic goals, but also contributes to ecological sustainability in the region.

The Pusterwaldbach power plant uses the hydropower of the Pusterwaldbach, which extends over an impressive height of 80 meters. This natural energy powers two Francis turbines, which can generate up to ten gigawatt hours of electricity annually. According to Michael Strebl, CEO of Wien Energie, the plant represents a significant step towards regional value creation and investment in future energy supplies.

Sustainable technologies and environmental protection

When planning and implementing the project, particular attention was paid to protecting nature. An innovative fish ladder was incorporated, allowing fish species to continue their natural life cycles and traverse the stream. This is an example of how modern energy production can coexist harmoniously with the environment. Karl Gruber, the managing director of Wien Energie, calls the initiative a model example of climate protection and ecology. “Energy production in the beautiful Murtal will significantly increase the security of supply for the region,” emphasizes Gruber.

Mayor Fritz Strahlhofer from Pusterwald sees this project as a decisive step in the right direction. He emphasizes that a sustainable and future-proof energy supply is of great importance for the region. This development comes at a time when there is increasing focus on renewable energy and investments in such projects appear necessary to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
