Pusterwald celebrates the opening of the new hydropower plant on the Pusterwaldbach
In the small town of Pusterwald in the Murtal district, a new hydropower plant was put into operation on Friday. This system has an output of two megawatts and was developed by Vienna Energie. With this power plant output, as much electricity can be produced every year as 3,300 households consume. This decision to build the Pusterwaldbach hydroelectric power plant not only pursues economic goals, but also contributes to ecological sustainability in the region.
The Pusterwaldbach power plant uses the hydropower of the Pusterwaldbach, which extends over an impressive falling height of 80 meters. This natural energy drives two Francis turbines with which up to ten gigawatt hours of electricity can be generated annually. According to Michael Strebl, the CEO of Vienna Energie, the facility is a significant step towards regional added value and investing in the future energy supply.
Sustainable technologies and environmental protection
When planning and implementing the project, attention was paid to the protection of nature. An innovative fish staircase was integrated, which enables fish species to continue their natural life cycles and cross the stream. This is an example of how modern energy generation can harmoniously coexist with the environment. Karl Gruber, the managing director of Vienna Energie, calls the initiative a prime example of climate protection and ecology. "Energy generation in the beautiful Murtal will significantly increase the security of supply for the region," emphasizes Gruber.
Mayor Fritz Strahlhofer from Pusterwald sees a decisive step in the right direction in this project. It emphasizes that sustainable and future -proof energy supply is of great importance for the region. This development comes at a time when the focus is increasingly on renewable energies and investments in such projects appear to be necessary in order to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.
