With the new voting ratio, the ÖVP and SPÖ have 24 seats together in a 48-seat parliament and can no longer act as government parties. Kunasek emphasized the importance of this choice and explained that the FPÖ stands for a real change. With his issues of health, migration, traffic and business, the right accents were set. According to Kleine Zeitung is now also the division of government departments, whereby Kunasek's deputy Manuela Khom was appointed by the ÖVP. Government formation is shaped by the divergence in the election promise of the two partners, in particular with regard to the controversial project of a new hospital in the district of Liezen.

The elected governor Drexler saw the blame for the defeat in federal politics and complained that the voters could not understand the interference of the Federal President. Herbert Kickl, the FPÖ chairman, described the election outcome as a clear democratic call to order and called for a return to the interests of the people. The new constellation in the Styrian state parliament could also have an impact at the national level if voters should continue to advocate a turn in politics.
