Leobens Rufbus system: new stops and more flexibility for citizens

In the city of Leoben, a significant expansion of the Rufbus system is imminent. From February 2025, a total of 48 stops will be approached, which is a significant improvement in public transport connections, especially on the outskirts. This development follows the introduction of the Rufbus system in 2005, which serves defined stops and is only in operation if necessary.

The Rufbus system was launched to offer residents in areas in areas without direct connections through classic line buses a flexible mobility solution. Due to this need -oriented form of traffic, passengers can easily order a bus instead of being dependent on fixed timetables.

a rapid growth of the network

At the beginning, the Rufbus system was operated with only eleven stops. The number has been increased to 19 in recent years. The city is now planning to increase the number of stops to 48. "With this system, especially in the areas of low passenger volume, we can better respond to the needs," explains Ronald Schindler, director of Stadtwerke Leoben.

A second electric bus was procured to cover the extended room at stops. This bus has space for 15 people and is more environmentally friendly in the company. At the end of 2025 the fleet change to two electrical buses is to take place, which will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. According to Schindler, the additional bus used will not only be more climate -friendly, but also offer passengers a better experience.

In February 2025, the Rufbus system will also head for numerous new stops in the following urban areas:

  • in the valley
  • Dorfstraße
  • Schladnitzgraben
  • settlement Göss
  • Kaltenbrunn & Kienbergweg
  • Nennersdorfer Straße
  • Östu-Stettin and Münzenberg

optimization of the transport offer

The decision to convert inner -city traffic in Schladnitzgraben follows an analysis that showed that the existing system no longer met the needs of the passengers. "In order to enable residents in Schladnitzgraben to use public transport more flexibly, we have converted the existing stops into Rufbus stops so that people can call the bus to their usual stop," said Schindler. The school bus will not be affected by this change and will continue to run in the usual way.

The project generates annual costs of around 240,000 euros, but the mayor of Leoben, Kurt Wallner, underlines the importance of sustainable mobility: "This approach not only helps reduce emissions, but also meets the needs of citizens and ensures that future generations can live in a city worth living."

For the use of the call bus, interested parties can call 0800 300 111 30 minutes before the desired travel time and specify your stop. The switch to other bus lines is made possible at the main train station or in the city center (LCS), and the system is available on working days Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased directly on the bus for a composite tariff.
