Food rescue in Wagna: New fair divider against waste

What happens if valuable resources arise from excess foods? Much more than you think! In the market town of Wagna, more precisely at Eisenbahnerstraße 22, a new fair divider was initiated who pursues the basic idea: "Use instead of waste". This is a simple but extremely effective solution against food waste.

food that can no longer be sold end up unnecessarily in the trash. The problem is global: According to estimates, around a third of all food produced are thrown away worldwide. In the European Union, an average of 173 kilograms per person, which leads to over 143 fully loaded saddle tractors in Austria. This waste affects not only consumers, but also manufacturers genetically modified plants and farmers who put a lot of work, energy and resources into production.

about food sharing and the fair divider

food sharing is a movement that fought against this waste. Daniela Kürschner, a representative of food sharing in the Leibnitz district, explains: "The vision and at the same time mission are: 'Use instead of waste!'" A refrigerator that has been with the club house in Wagna since October is an excellent example of how everyone can actively participate. People can use a WhatsApp service to find out which food is currently available. A QR code at the location makes access very comfortable.

The volunteers, the so -called foodsaver, make a significant contribution to the success of this project. They ensure that the refrigerator is cleaned and filled every week so that the donated foods are available to all area residents free of charge. The interest in this new fair divider shows how important and valuable such initiatives are.

The municipality of Wagna played an essential role by providing the location with a refrigerator and necessary infrastructure. A big thank you is also given to the building yard employees who have actively helped to implement the project.

But did you know that the common street in Styria also operates a fair divider? This was set up in November last year and is located directly in front of the parish church. Here the parish of Straß kindly made the space available. The refrigerator also comes from EP Kokol, while the box was provided through the green street. All of this shows that the model of the fair divider is very well received not only in Wagna, but also in other communities and encourages many people to actively support food waste.

Important information and other backgrounds on these valuable initiatives can be found in the current reports . The movement shows how much each one can contribute to combating food waste, and offers a platform to use excess foods sensibly.
