Biodiversity in Leutschach: New project for endangered species started

In the picturesque community of Leutschach on the wine road, a new biodiversity project called "Wiedhaopf hits emerald lizard" recently saw the light of day. This initiative, which was presented in a solemn event at the Kollerhof on Eichberg winery, is a project of the Nature Park specialties South Styria. The initiative could play an important role in creating new habitats for endangered animal species and promoting domestic biodiversity.

The project aims to improve the living conditions for endangered species such as the Wiedhopf and the emerald lizard on agricultural areas. The project is supported by the biodiversity fund of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection and the funds of the European Union. Harald Lieleg, host and member of the association, said: "The vineyards and forests shape the landscape. Our new orchard with 50 chestnut trees will serve our field birds as an additional habitat."

Mayor Erich Plasch from Leutschach emphasizes the importance of the project for the cultural landscape and says: "An increased diversity increases the attractiveness of the landscape and increases the biodiversity as a whole." Member of the State Parliament Bernadette Kerschler adds that the region determined to protect and promote biodiversity. "We South Styrian consistently implement our visions. To strengthen biodiversity, you have to actively act - the nature park specialties are a role model here," she says.
