Chamber of Commerce demands modernization of the thermal rack and more power

The representatives of the Chamber of Commerce recently were active in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district and have dealt with important topics, including the persistent problem of the so-called "thermal laminated train". Christian Sommerbauer, the chairman of the regional office, commented on the intolerable situation in Pöllauberg. "It cannot be that a train journey from Venice to Graz takes just as long as from Graz to Eastern Styria. We have to finally steam the 'Bimmel-Thermenbahn'," he said.

The demand for maintaining and modernizing the thermal laminated train is not new, but it remains a central concern of the economy. On the occasion of the tour stop of the "WKO on Tour" there were also other topics on the agenda. The Styrian Vice President Gabriele Lechner emphasized the significant importance of an increase in the groundwater level of "will to perform and personal responsibility". She emphasized that solidarity was not a one -way street and prosperity should not be considered granted.

challenges in the job market

An urgent problem that Lechner appealed is the Austrian tax system, which in their opinion encourages people to work less. "If someone increases their working hours by 100 percent, he only receives an average of 72 percent more wages while the rest goes to the state," she said. This means that increasingly people go into part -time work, even those who have no care obligations.

Sommerbauer agreed to this criticism and noted that the tax and social system is intolerable in its current form. "We do not have to question the individual decisions, but the system that favors such phenomena," he added. Statistics show that the Austrians only work on average 32.4 hours a week, and only about 32 percent of 60 to 64 year olds are in working life.

suggestions for improvement

In order to counter these developments, the Chamber of Commerce is planning a new performance agenda. A central point of this agenda is that more performance has to be worthwhile for people. The concern also includes the abolition of unnecessary laws and regulations as well as adapting the education system to the challenges of the 21st century.

Some regional actors were also present at the "On Tour" event, including Evelyn Handler, Simone Spitzer and Nadine Handler from Woman in Business and regional office manager Simone Pfeiffer. The discussions made it clear the urgent necessities and challenges that the region faces always with the aim of promoting both economic growth and social justice. These topics are not only important locally, but also have an impact on tourism and commuting in the region.
