Protection of children on the Internet: Information series in Eastern Styria

The protection of the mental health of children and adolescents is now one of the greatest challenges, especially with regard to the dangers that the Internet has. In a world in which there is a constant presence of social media and screens, it is crucial to understand how these technologies influence the development of young people.

Manuela Khom, the President of the Edda Egger Foundation, said: "As practical as the technologies and entertaining and networking, social media are: As we all know, they all know, even risks and challenges that we should not ignore!" The balancing act becomes more exciting than ever, since we have to weigh up between promoting the positive aspects and the necessary protection of our children.

In order to meet this challenge, the Edda Egger Foundation and the Styrian Family Association launched an important project. A series of events is carried out in several regions of Styria, with the aim of supporting parents in the safe and healthy use of digital media. This initiative takes place in cooperation with the State Police Directorate as well as Safer Internet and the Children's and Youth Attorney.

important event details

A central event will take place on October 18 at 3 p.m. in the Birkfeld middle school, Edelsee-Straße 17, 8190 Birkfeld. Important topics such as cyberbullying, excessive screen time and dealing with harmful content on the Internet are discussed here. The event aims to educate parents and develop practical protective measures.

The topic is not only important locally, but is also taken seriously at European level. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has emphasized mental health of young people as one of the most urgent challenges in the decade. It advocates an open and fact-based debate on the effects of social media and announced a comprehensive investigation to illuminate unethical practices of the online platforms.

The event in Styria is perceived as part of this larger initiative in order to set an example for the protection of the young generation in digital space. This commitment is flanked by extensive discussions and conscious education, which should promote the basics for healthy media use.
