Reconciliation and hope: Bishop Marketz invites you to celebrate!
Klagenfurt, Österreich - The Carinthian Bishop Josef Marketz urged on March 4, 2025 to use the opportunity in the Holy Year and to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation. In his letter of fasting, he emphasizes: "God comes towards us, it is he who gives us reconciliation and lets us start again." The cross, according to Marketz, symbolize peace between heaven and earth and encourage the believers to approach each other and to forgive themselves. In a world full of negative messages, he calls up to actively see the good and to speak positive words to strengthen the community, as well as reports.
anniversaries and review
2025 is an important year for Bishop Marketz because there are several anniversaries to celebrate: his five-year term, the 70th birthday, the 70th anniversary of the state contract and 30 years of Austrian EU membership. In an interview with the Diocese of Graz's Internet editorial team, he reflects on the challenges and the role of the Church in these "excited times", in which reconciliation and hope are particularly important. He points out that the sacrament of reconciliation also offers in times of crisis such as the current war, consolation and stability.
On February 2, 2020, he was consecrated to the bishop of building bridges and combining the various ethnic groups in Carinthia. On the occasion of his anniversaries, he invites you to a thank you festival on May 16 in the episcopal residence and the bishop's garden in Klagenfurt. There, a historian symposium and a cultural festival are to commemorate the pioneering work of its predecessors, who fought for peace and together in difficult times. Marketz emphasizes the importance of dialogue with young people and announces a pilgrimage to Rome to promote the exchange between the generations, based on the basic hope, faith and love. The central messages in the Holy Scriptures, such as "Don't be afraid!", Are a leitmotif for the future in which he wants a place where faith in God bears and offers hope, as Kathpress described in detail.
