party mood is at the styriarte! Mathis Huber, the director of the festival, announced on Friday, November 22nd that not only the festival celebrated its 40th birthday in 2025, but also achieved an impressive anniversary at the age of 35. These are enough reasons to exude the anticipation for the upcoming celebrations!

Another important anniversary is related to this year's festival motto "Raum & Klang". In 1625, exactly 400 years ago, the conversion of the Eggenberg Castle began, which is now considered the prince's residence of the princely family of the same name. As part of the festival, the magnificent palace facility is played with a special focus on the topic of "ambition & illusion", which offers the musical accompaniment of the third Styria.

a varied program

The performance of Antonio Draghi's "Gl 'Incantesimi Discolti" is particularly outstanding. This opera, which was listed in 1673 for the wedding of Emperor Leopold I and Archduchess Claudia Felicitas in Graz, tells of allegorical figures such as happiness and good will that are enchanted by envy and redeemed by wisdom. The implementation takes place in the planetary hall and is presented by the baroque specialists of Art House 17 under the direction of Michael Hell.

The festival aims to highlight the symbiosis of space and sound. According to Huber, the festival emphasizes the "privileged venues" that pull a thick thread through the program. In addition to Eggenberg Castle, the parish church in Pöllau, as well as several other churches and castles in the region, is also included in the celebrations. The weddings of the festival include the home games in the Palais Attems and the Graz Burg.

The Stefaniensaal will offer a special evening that enforced the opening concert of 1908. Dom music director Melissa Dermastia will present a musical spectrum from Bach's Orgeltoccata to Beethoven's "Nintris". The styriarte Youth Orchestra is also looking forward to an impressive appearance under the direction of conductor Mei-Ann Chen. This year the performance with Gustav Holts "Planeten" and melodies from the "Star Wars" films will offer a truly intergalactic experience.

A highlight of the styriarte 2025 will be Jordi Savall, who will travel through the "Sea of Music" with extensive ensembles as part of its programs. The cultural experiences promise to present both old and new sounds about various continents such as Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Cuba and to meet the ideas of space and sound in full width.

The entire event will therefore be a real firework of sounds and emotions and offers both music lovers and new listeners a deep insight into the musical variety that the styriaries has to offer. The preparations are in full swing, and the anticipation for this extraordinary festival is already noticeable.
