Revolution in traffic: Gleisdorf receives the first motorway bus stop!
Gleisdorf, Österreich - A groundbreaking project takes on forms! The first highway bus stop in Austria will be created on the A2 South Autobahn, a concept that redefines mobility and offers pendulators faster connections. This unique stop is being built as part of a comprehensive road renovation between Gleisdorf Süd and Gleisdorf West, which has already started and is expected to open in 2027, as ORF Styria . Due to the direct connection to the Gleisdorf train station and a nearby Park and Ride parking lot, the change between car and public transport will be significantly simplified.
a traffic turning project with an example of a role model
This pilot project, which is unique in Austria, is promoted by ASFINAG, the state of Styria, the transport association Styria and the city of Gleisdorf. The stop will be directly accessible on both sides of the motorway and thus create an attractive addition to the ExpressBus lines that are already on the highway, such as Gleisdorf.at . In conjunction with lines such as the Fürstenfeld express bus from Fürstenfeld to Graz, the new stop will increase the use of public transport and thus contribute to a reduction in traffic on the A2 of up to two percent.
With its own waiting areas and sanitary facilities, the stop will not only be a passage station, but also offer a comfortable place where commuters can prepare. The improvement of the existing infrastructures and the introduction of further connections clearly show the potential for more public transport in the region. It is also planned that this concept will be expanded to further bus lines and private providers such as Flixbus through positive results, which represents a step towards sustainable mobility. This innovative stop could thus significantly advance the mobility transition in Austria.
