After an exciting and intensive construction phase, the new Mariazell train station has been ceremoniously opened today. The modernization of the train station, in which around ten million euros were invested, took a total of nine months. The aim was to preserve the historical charm of the building, while at the same time the necessary modern standards became reality. Mariazell has been an important hub of the Mariazellerbahn for more than a century, which welcomes around 55,000 passengers annually.
"The Mariazellerbahn is not just a means of transport, but a lifeline for the Pielachtal and the Mariazellerland," said Mayor Walter Schweighofer (ÖVP). He emphasized the importance of the train for pilgrimages, the local economy and tourism. In addition, a pre -heat system, new switches, rails and thresholds were created, and 33 new masts were set up.
