Matthias Mayer, a true figurehead of Austrian winter sports, has a significant step in his career: The triple Olympic champion successfully completed the basic coaching course at the Federal Sports Academy Graz (BSPA). After impressive achievements that secured three gold medals at the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022 and a bronze medal, he now dares to switch from the competition to the other side of sport.
Mayer brings plenty of experience from several top -class competitions. His 11 World Cup victories, especially in legendary races such as Kitzbühel, Wengen and Bormio, make him an authority in alpine skiing. "I want to pass on my knowledge and experiences to the next generation," said Mayer. For him, the BSPA Graz is the ideal partner to develop and expand his coaching skills. This training will not only expand his qualifications, but also ensure that young talents can benefit from his expertise.
enthusiasm at the BSPA
The director of the BSPA Graz, Georg Veitz, was enthusiastic about the participation of Mayer in the course. He emphasized that Matthias motivated his experience from top sport and brought in with great commitment. According to Veitz, Mayer shows enormous potential to be successful in his new coaching career. Such sporty sizes reinstalled as role models and inspired both trainers and athletes.
In addition to his training costs, Mayer has already collected practice by getting involved in his home club Gerlitzen. Here he works closely with the Carinthian State Association and even cooperates with his father, Helmut Mayer, who himself has an impressive career as vice world champion and silver medalist at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary.
Mayer is full of energy and zest for action to drive his coaching career forward and to master the challenges. He sees this as a professional expansion and as a possibility to enrich the next generation in alpine skiing with his experiences. Finally, it remains to be seen how his new role as a trainer will develop and which young talents will benefit from his knowledge.
