The shadow of revenge: trial against 15-year-olds about attempted murder

An unusual process that combines both violence and tragedy was negotiated in Graz on Thursday. The accused, a 14-year-old girl at the time, is suspected of having attempted murder. It is particularly striking that due to the age of the accused, no jury, but lay judges take part in the negotiation.

The incident that has been rolled up since February of this year has originated in a violent attack on the accused. In an idyllic moment that quickly turned into a nightmare, the 15-year-old was lured into a house by several girls. There she was attacked with foot kicks and beats, even with an iron bar. This obviously happened as a "revenge campaign" after her attacker laughed while the brother of one of the girls was revived because of a drug cocktail.

revenge and escalation

The accused wanted to return to the violence suffered four months later. She kept a knife with herself and confronted one of the girls to demand an apology. When this refused, an escalation occurred. After a short replica, the 15-year-old of the others stabbed in the lower back. Actually, she had intended to hit her in the buttocks. But through the movement she moved the stitch to another place.

It turned out that the investigation gave the 13-year-old sister of the accused of being the act, which was charged as a possible indication of a planned action. Another stressful element was handwritten notes that were discovered in the cell of the 15-year-olds. In it, the defender found insults against different people, but rather called the records a "trash can" in which you can throw your thoughts unfiltered.

The allegations regarding the revenge records were not without consequences. The accused's lawyer reported on a post -traumatic disorder, from which his client now suffers, which is expressed by flashbacks and sleep disorders. Nevertheless, an expert emphasized that their accountability was given, albeit partially restricted.

The public exclusion during the interrogation underlined the sensitivity of the case. The lawyer demanded a thorough examination of the aggressiveness that prevailed in society and appealed to politics not to further ignore the situation. The negotiation was accompanied by an outcry that should show that this type of complications should not become normal. A judgment for Thursday afternoon was then expected.
