Wildon in change: Citizens shape the future of space and mobility

Wildon. The opening event in Wildon Castle attracted almost all residents of the community to contribute their thoughts on the future development of space and mobility. Mayor Christoph Grassmugg welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the project, which is supported by funding from the federal, state and the EU. "I am convinced that the Wildoners will take this opportunity," said Grassmugg.

The project “Where will Wildon Hin” aim to involve the residents in discussions with ÖBB and the country. While the focus is on the two -track rail expansion, a more comprehensive perspective for the almost 5,840 inhabitants of the community is also being discussed. The project manager Mathias Mitteregger and Elisabeth Leitner summarize: "Now we have the opportunity to lay the foundations for the future."

insights into the development of Wildon

Around 80,000 people cross Wildon every day, which corresponds to the entire Leibnitz district of residents, explains Mitteregger. At three stations of the event, the participants had the opportunity to express their visions for Wildon as a place to live and work as well as as a traffic junction. This is a central point of the project.

A particularly interesting aspect was the search for the "soul of Wildon". Those present drew their favorite places on cards and steered them in a large map. The Wildon swimming lake was created after a flood on the initiative of the former mayor Josef Hirschmann, was particularly eye -catching and was identified as a favorite.

"A nice path leads from Stocking to Wurzing," commented Andreas Karl, while Roswitha Rungaldier, a Wildoner who has been living in the community for 70 years, proudly showed her homeland. The suggestions of the event are now bundled and evaluated by a project group. By December 6th, further ideas can be submitted in ideas boxes or via an online questionnaire. The first results are planned for the summer of 2025.

Citizen participation is an essential part of this process, which can set the course for the future of Wildon. One of the first tasks is to find out what the Wildoners themselves consider important in order to counteract a possible traffic chaos and to increase the quality of life in their community.
