Hiker falls while helping his dog at Green Lake
In a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon near Green Lake, a hiker tried to save his dog that had gotten into an awkward situation. While trying to help the four-legged friend, the hiker slipped and fell about 20 meters into a steep gully. During the fall he was also hit in the head by a loose stone.
A companion of the injured hiker recognized the urgency of the situation and immediately called the Alpine emergency number 140. This quickly led to the Tragöß mountain rescue service and the Christophorus 17 emergency medical helicopter being deployed. However, due to the dense trees in the area, the helicopter could not fly directly to the injured person. The rescue workers therefore set out to reach the hiker on foot.
Rescue operation using rope technology
The hiker received medical care on site before the helpers used special rope technology to rescue him from the impassable terrain. Conditions were challenging as the terrain was very steep. After the injured man was successfully secured, the mountain rescuers transported him to a nearby forest road.
Once there, they handed the hiker over to the Red Cross, who then took him to the valley in an ambulance. The injured man was then handed over to the emergency medical helicopter, which ultimately flew him to the Bruck State Hospital (LKH Bruck).
A total of twelve active mountain rescue workers were involved in this operation; in addition to the crew of the Christophorus 17 helicopter, members of the Bruck an der Mur Red Cross were also on duty. This incident highlights the challenges that can arise during rescue operations in difficult terrain and demonstrates the courage and determination of rescue workers who are always ready to save lives in the face of many difficulties.
