Preferences and voices: New trends in the regional elections in Styria
The current election votes from the recent choice show interesting results from the region. The Freedom Party (FPÖ) was able to achieve remarkable approval rates in this election. In Upper Styria, her top candidate Amesbauer managed to get out with 8,994 votes. National Councilor Wolfgang Zanger followed with 3,063 votes. The FPÖ boss Mario Kunasek, who was in 52th place on the list, also recorded 1,890 preferred votes.
In the regional constituency Graz/Graz environment, Axel Kassegger also showed strong numbers with 1,684 preferred votes. Kunasek was also active here as the last list and received a respectable 8,087 votes. The situation in West Styria was particularly remarkable, where Federal Councilor Markus Leinfellner, despite an extradition request against him, obtained 3,276 votes and could therefore count on the solidarity of the voters.

The ÖVP was able to show itself clearly in this election. Kurt Egger, the top candidate on the state list, achieved 728 preferred votes. Ernst Gödl, the Member of the National Council and number one on the regional election list for Graz/Graz area, earned the top value in his constituency with 6,493 votes. Christoph Stark, the mayor of Gleisdorf, joined and collected 5,564 votes in the constituency of East Styria.
In contrast, the SPÖ also had its top forces, but with more moderate results. Jörg Leichtfried, the state list candidate, achieved 1,365 preferred votes, while Wolfgang Moitzi took second place with 587 votes. The Greens also presented themselves strongly. Jakob Schwarz, the doctor and top candidate on the state list, progressed with 913 preferred votes. The mayor of Graz was particularly striking, Alke Kahr, who does not have ambitions on a federal career, was able to collect 2,051 preferred votes in the regional constitutional district of Graz/Graz.
