More police officers for safe roads: record numbers in Styria 2024

The Styrian police recorded impressive developments in 2024 that strengthen security in the region. At the state police directorate, the signs are on success: the police not only received more applications, but also the number of new police students and the young police officers has increased sharply. This personnel offensive has not only made the everyday work of over 4,600 employees easier, but also offers noticeable advantages for the population.

The increase in the number of applicants should be particularly emphasized. If there were still around 850 interested parties in 2022, this number has increased to almost 1,500 applications by 2024. This success is largely thanks to the innovative campaign "I can be", which scores with modern approaches in recruiting. With elements such as a one-click application, personal advice and attractive offers, including a climate king and taking over the driver's license costs, the Styria police are presented as a modern employer.

Current status of training and new employees

A remarkable change is also shown in the number of police students: this has grown to over 600 in 2024, a record value. 56 new trainees begin their basic training in December. At the same time, 190 newly trained young police officers reinforce the director's service in the various districts. Above all, the city police commands in Graz and Leoben as well as the districts of Liezen and Bruck-Mürzzuschlag from this new signing.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner emphasizes the long -term perspective of the personnel offensive: "The future -oriented compensation of exits, especially through retirement, remains a core destination." Over the past ten years, more than 670 new forces have been included in the Styrian police family, 300 of them since 2020. This sustainable planning not only ensures short -term success, but is also an investment in the future of security in Styria.
