WKO tour: President HERK calls for reforms against a lack of personnel in St. Peter

As part of the "WKO on Tour" initiative, the President of the Styria Chamber of Commerce, Josef Herk, visited several companies in the Deutschlandsberg district to determine current challenges and needs of the companies. Together with regional office chairman Manfred Kainz and RST manager Michael Klein, the visits mainly focused on the municipality of St. Peter in the Sulmtal.

A highlight of the visit was the handover of the "Goldener Boden" award to Mayor Maria Skazel in the municipal office. This award is characterized by municipalities that prove to be economic -friendly. Particularly noticeable was the nearby local supplier, which is operated by the community, which is not often found today.

acute lack of personnel and a need for action

HERK and his team also had discussions with GAEST GmbH, a company that specializes in large-scale kitchen technology, and electrical engineering Schimpl, who are particularly proud of their apprentices, including some winners of the Stars of Styria Prize. During a press conference, Herk represented the most pressing challenges with which companies are faced with, such as the acute lack of personnel and the excessive complex bureaucracy.

A central topic was demographic development in the region. In the coming years, twice as many people will retire as will be retired. "You don't have to be a mathematician to estimate the consequences," said Herk. The persistently weak economy also exacerbates the Situation, and the chamber representatives called for a rethink in politics. "The standstill in political solutions is no longer wearable," says Kainz.

The Chamber of Commerce underlined: "Performance must be worthwhile." Responsibility for the prosperity lies in the hands of those who work every day in the economy, and therefore employees and employers need a clear plan of the new federal government to strengthen the regional economy. Herk pointed out that a 100-point measures were handed over to the Styrian government to give the economy an impulse.

The delegation continued its tour and visited Stefan Galli, Polsterer Robert Strohmeier and the Destillerie Krauss in Aigen. Despite a tense economic situation, the companies were carefully optimistic. The early completion of the Koralbahn in the coming year could bring considerable momentum for the entire region.

With these visits and discussions, the Chamber of Commerce wants to gain a clear picture of the situation on site and develop strategies in order to tackle the prevailing problems. The actors of the economy are unanimously behind the demand for reforms in order to cope with the lack of personnel and bureaucracy.
