Film days in Styria: fight together against global hunger!
hunger is a devastating global problem that affects millions of people. According to current reports, up to 783 million people worldwide suffer from hunger, while over 2.3 billion have no access to healthy food. The effects of cost increases also affect the European population hard, and internationally, hunger is increasingly being used as a means in war.
For everyone who wants to learn more about these critical topics, there will soon be an exciting opportunity in Styria. The film days for the right to food, under the motto "Hunger.Macht.profite.", Present a number of documentaries in different cities from October 22nd to 24th, 2024. This event will take place around the World Food Day on October 16 and will be held at locations in Graz, St. Stefan Ob Stainz and Gleisdorf.

As in the past 13 years, the event brings significant documentaries to the screen, which deal with the challenges of our global food production and show possible solutions. "The organizers managed to bring five internationally noticed documentaries to Austria, including two Austria premieres, all of which are offered in German," says Barbara Waschmann from Normale.at.
One of the topics of the films is to make large corporations that often drive the indigenous population from their country in their pursuit of profit and worsen the nutritional situation through the use of patented hybrid seed goods. At the same time, the film series also illuminates alternative approaches such as solidarity agriculture and the strengthening of indigenous activists and queer gardeners who redesign the relationship between people and nature.
visitors are invited to take part in discussions according to the film screenings in which local initiatives, farmers and experts will talk about the films worth seeing as well as the associated problems and solutions. This offers the possibility of actively fighting our livelihoods.

The ticket prices are € 9.50 for adults and € 7.50 reduced. These documentaries not only offer insights into the complex topics of hunger and food production, but should also stimulate a discussion about possible solutions in order to counter the challenges in food supply.
The event is organized by Fian Austria, ÖBV - via Campesina Austria, Attac and Normale.at and offers a platform to think about the essential problems in connection with food safety and sustainable agriculture. Particular attention is paid to the documentary "The Last Seed", which shows the many challenges that affect small -scale agriculture in countries such as South Africa, Tanzania and Senegal. "Peasant seed systems are fundamental for sustainable growing methods and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity," notes Tina Wirnsberger, project coordinator of Fian Austria.
