Stauchaos threatens: A10 tunnel construction is delayed until June 26th!

The A10 between Golling and Throwing is currently affected by a tunnel construction project that will last until June 26, 2025. In the neighboring communities, the delay causes displeasure. However, ASFINAG sticks to the completion date, despite the outstanding work on portals, guidelines, asphaltes and not yet granted permits. Already in the past there have been kilometers of traffic jams, some of which were up to 50 kilometers long, and overloaded alternative routes.

Project manager Hanspeter Treichl announced that an earlier release of the tunnel is not possible. The Corpus Christi weekend becomes particularly critical, since traffic jams are expected at around 20 kilometers to the south. Development work takes place in sections in ten night operations, whereby the final relief of the traffic situation will only occur after June 26th.

traffic load and alternative routes

The upcoming travel times during the holiday period could be a test of patience for many drivers. In order to accommodate residents and commuters, it is recommended to plan alternative routes. The tunnel construction always has an impact on the flow of traffic in regular construction site operation, which is also the case in other regions.

In Germany, there are currently also intensive work on various tunnel construction projects. According to a survey by the Stuva, over 84 kilometers of traffic tunnels are under construction in 2023/24. This construction activities distribution shows that the long-distance rail tunnel and street tunnel have increased compared to the previous year. The road construction volume currently includes almost 34 kilometers, of which 60% are created in a closed construction.

More and more cities are relying on modern tunnel projects to relieve urban traffic and improve the infrastructure. Munich leads here with around 22 kilometers of construction volume, followed by Hamburg and Nuremberg. Such measures are also urgently needed in Salzburg to solve the traffic problem sustainably. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how the situation on the A10 will develop, especially with the approaching Corpus Christi weekend.
