Social fraud uncovered: 156 ads and 80,000 euros punishment in Tyrol!
A comprehensive investigation by the financial police and police authorities has led to a remarkable case of social fraud at a transport company in Tyrol. This initiative was triggered by an anonymous advertisement that suspected that drivers of the company used several driver cards to avoid statutory steering and rest periods. As a result, the travel writers of 33 trucks were checked, with a variety of irregularities to light.
A total of 156 advertisements were filed against the transport company, which illustrates the dimension of the stated violations. Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer emphasized that the close cooperation between the financial police and the police contributes decisively to the uncoveration of these illegal activities. In the evaluation of the data collected, the investigators found serious irregularities in the social security registrations and the working hours of the drivers.
Details of the violations
In addition to 107 violations of steering and rest periods, the financial police also filed a complaint for falsification of documents and nine advertisements for falsification of evidence at the public prosecutor. In six cases, the illegal use of several driver cards was demonstrated, which underlines the security risk of tired drivers in road traffic.
punitive measures and other measures
Due to the severity of the violations, the district administrative authority has a fine of around 80,000 euros against the transport company. In addition, an application for withdrawal of the business allocation of the company was submitted. The financial police intend to advance the further legal steps in order to hold those responsible for accounting, while the Austrian health insurance fund and the tax office were involved in the exams.
In the context of these events, it is important to mention that social fraud in Austria is an increasingly pressing problem, which is to be combated by the founding of the Task Force social service fraud (Solbe) in 2018. This task force specializes in identifying various types of fraud and developing effective measures to combat them. In the event of suspected cases of social service fraud, citizens can also contact the authorities directly to clarify and display criminal acts.
The step to take these illegal practices is not only important for the integrity of the labor market, but also for the safety of road traffic participants in Austria. In order to avoid future incidents, consistent cooperation between the responsible authorities is essential.
