Sensation in Lower Austria: Sokol/Post women celebrate championship after 6 years!

Graz, Österreich - The SG VB NÖ Sokol/Post won the 52nd championship title in the history of the association on April 23, 2025 and thus celebrated the first title since 2017. In the decisive third game of the "Best of Five" final series, the Lower Austrians convincingly prevailed against the UVC Graz 3: 0 (11, 17, 14). This rewarded the team of trainer Zuzana Pecha-Lstovicova for a strong season in which she has remained unbeaten since the end of November 2022.

UVC Graz had won one set in the first two games of the final, but the team had no chance in the third game. The lack of key players such as Verena Janka and Maya Jensterle, both of whom would have been decisive for the success of the team, was particularly remarkable. Foreign attacker Ina Fuchs expressed relief after the game and ended her career in volleyball with this championship title.

The way to the title

The championship finale started with an exciting meeting. On Easter Sunday, the Sokol/Post women won the second game against UVC Graz 3: 1 (17:25, 25:19, 25:15, 25:18). Although they reset in the first set, they quickly found their game and dominated the remaining sentences. Tijana Knezevic made the final decision by converting the second match ball after around 100 minutes of play.

The path to the title was accompanied by an excellent record throughout the season. Sokol/Post not only achieved first place in the basic round, but also won the ÖVV Cup in February. In the playoffs, the team gave up only one sentence until the final. Trainer Zuzana Pecha-Lstovicova emphasized teamwork and the growing together of the new players, which gave the team to their strong form.

sporting meaning and outlook

The skills and team spirit of Sokol/Post not only show success at the national level, but also the growth of volleyball sports in general. Volleyball is very popular worldwide and is growing especially in Germany, where around 436,000 members were registered in the German Volleyball Association in 2024. Growth underlines the increasing popularity of sport, both in leisure and competitive sports.

In summary, it can be said that the Sokol/Post women not only achieved significant sporting success, but also contribute to the positive perception and development of volleyball. The coming seasons promise to remain exciting, while the team is now hoping for further success.
