Second sleep on A12: Young handlebar lands between trees!

On May 24, 2025, a traffic accident occurred on the A12 Inntal Autobahn near Innsbruck, which was caused by the driver's sleep. A 20-year-old Austrian was on the east in the direction of travel when she suddenly lost control of her vehicle. Her car came to a standstill lying on the side between trees. Fortunately, the driver was apparently unharmed and was brought to LKH Innsbruck for an examination. The property damage to the vehicle, however, was considerable.

The rescue workers were quickly on site and included an emergency doctor and units of the Innsbruck fire brigade, which consisted of 13 men from the BFI Innsbruck and 18 men from FF Völs. The police and ASFINAG were also involved in the deployment to clarify the situation and release traffic again. Such incidents are not uncommon on the Austrian streets, as the Statistics Austria shows.

He also stated that he had fallen asleep while driving and got on the right side of the road. His vehicle crashed into a sign, slid over an embankment and collided with a tree. The driver suffered indefinite injuries and was recovered from his car by the Kramsach fire brigade before being taken to the Kufstein hospital.

Another serious traffic accident occurred near Innsbruck, where a 20-year-old Austrian at the Obermarkt in Telfs cut a car already in the roundabout. A collision could be prevented by a full braking of the other driver, but the driver lost control of her car, which finally caught a 44-year-old pedestrian. The person who caused the accident is also accused of not having a valid steering authorization. She herself suffered minor injuries and was also brought to the LKH Innsbruck.

The number of road traffic accidents in Austria has increased in recent years through constant observation and data acquisition. This data is collected by police organs and is regularly transmitted to the statistics Austria in order to create well -founded foundations for accident research and prevention. The Federal Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the continuous observation of the accident and publishes the results both on a quarterly and annual.

These incidents illustrate the risk of second sleep when driving and how important it is to treat yourself to breaks regularly to ensure your own driving ability.
