Cable railway employees cheer: 3.1% more wages from now on!
Österreich - The collective agreement negotiations for the Austrian cable car industry have been successfully completed. From July 1, 2025, around 18,000 employees will receive a wage increase of 3.1 percent in 250 cable car companies. This reports [ots] (https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250702_ots0124/18000-beschafttigte-in-derbahnwirtschaft-erhalt-31- percent-wage). The new collective agreement applies until April 30, 2026 and also keeps the increase in the entry wage to 2,138 euros gross per month.
In addition, a Sunday allowance for the summer months between May 1 and October 31 is introduced. These measures not only ensure wages, but also important jobs in the tourism regions of Austria. The negotiation team of the Chamber of Commerce, led by Andreas Hochwimmer, negotiated in cooperation with the Vida union.
Collective contract changes and remuneration
The new collective agreement brings significant changes, especially with regard to the remuneration of the staff. According to [WKO] (https://www.wko.at/kollective contract/kollective contract, the collective agreement applies to all employees and apprentices of the Austrian cable cars, with exceptions to drag lifts and material rope tracks. The contract comes into force on May 1, 2024 and is valid for 12 months.
The adjustments in the remuneration, which are specified in Appendix I of the collective agreement, are particularly worth mentioning. The apprentice compensation is also increased here: apprentices in the first year will receive 1,244 euros in the future, while in the fourth year they will receive 2,074 euros gross.
The new fees for apprentices are as follows:

1. Year of apprenticeship | 1,244 € | 7.19 € |
2. Year of apprenticeship | 1,452 € | 8.39 € |

additional regulations and advantages
The collective agreement also provides for further advantages for the employees. For example, employees who spend the night in the mountain station area receive 39.14 euros per night. In addition, an employee bonus of up to 3,000 euros is provided free of tax and tax for 2024.
The regulations on the vacation entitlement are also attractive: with less than 25 years of service, employees are entitled to 30 working days, and 36 working days from the age of 25.
The VIDA union and the Austria Chamber of Commerce are confident that the new regulations will contribute to the satisfaction of the employees and that the industry will continue to stabilize. It remains to be seen how the changes will affect the satisfaction and working conditions of the cable car staff, which play an important role in the tourist infrastructure.
