Shocking blow against child abuse: 20 arrests worldwide!

In a comprehensive campaign against the sexual abuse of children, the Spanish police, Interpol and Europol arrested a total of 20 people. This internationally coordinated measure took place in several countries, including the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Italy and Bulgaria. The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation that is directed against people who exchanged and spread materials for the sexual abuse of children through instant messaging groups. Several electronic devices were confiscated during the searches.

In Spain, seven suspects were arrested in various provinces, while the other 13 arrests were made in the countries mentioned above. The confiscated objects are six computers, 21 mobile phones and various other devices. The investigation had its origin in Spain, where cyber patrols were used to identify chat groups that were used to replace abuse depictions.

Details about the arrested

There are a teacher from Sevilla and a nurse from the province of Barcelona among the arrested. Both were in contact with minors and are suspected of being actively involved in the exchange and the spread of abuse material. In particular, the nurse is said to have paid for the abuse of Eastern European girls.

The context of the child abuse

Child abuse is a global problem that occurs in all companies and includes physical, sexual or psychological abuse and neglect of children under the age of 18. As the World Health Organization explains, the abuse of children is widespread in both the European region and worldwide. In many cases, the affected children are also subject to other negative experiences, for example in terms of mental health or drug abuse of their caregivers.

The current situation shows that conventional measures to protect children often are often not sufficient to remedy the increase in child abuse. There are growing concerns about the need to prioritize preventive measures and pursue a public health approach. The European report on the prevention of children's abuse is aimed at decision -makers and practitioners in order to draw attention to this problem and to illustrate the need for action.
