Shock accident in Allsteig: Military vehicle collides with a car!
In the morning of May 2, 2025, a serious accident occurred on the Allentsteig military training area in Lower Austria. At around 07:15 a.m., a military vehicle collided by a 22-year-old member of the Swiss Army, and a car whose driver was a 19-year-old woman from the Zwettl district. The accident happened at the intersection of the state road L75 with a tank road of the practice area.
The 22-year-old had tried to cross the L75 on street kilometers 10,935 when he apparently overlooked the 19-year-old car, who drove from the direction of Allensteig towards Zierings. The collision was so violent that both vehicles thrown off the street and finally came to a standstill on the side. Both drivers suffered injuries to an indefinite degree.
rescue measures and transport
After the collision, the Swiss soldier was removed after a first aid by the Bundesheer. The situation was particularly dramatic for the 19-year-old driver, who had to be freed from her vehicle from the powers of the volunteer fire brigade. Then she was flown to the University Hospital of Krems with the rescue helicopter Christophorus 2.
The fact that such accidents play a role in the area of road safety, the general statistics also show traffic accidents in Austria. According to Statistics Austria, road traffic accidents with personal damage are continuously recorded and published in order to provide reliable data for research and prevention.
international military exercises and incidents
The incident falls into the context of the ongoing international exercise "Trias25", in which 950 Swiss, 150 German and 200 Austrian soldiers take part. This exercise has been running since April 14th and will last until May 9, 2025. On Tuesday evening before the incident, another 19-year-old Swiss soldier was hit by a armored wheel vehicle while he was lying in the sleeping bag. Another incident occurred on Wednesday when two Swiss soldiers were brought to the hospital with suspicion of flue gas poisoning after trying to extinguish a forest fire, which shows that the exercises not only bring about military but also safety -related challenges.
The collision on the Allentsteig military training area is therefore a further indication of the dangers in road traffic, especially in situations in which military and civilian traffic meet. KURIER reports that both have suffered injuries and the police are now examining the exact circumstances of the accident.
Careful handling of traffic safety is essential to avoid such accidents in the future.
