Schnedlitz: Green politics is fanatic and endangers our life!

FPÖ general secretary Michael Schledlitz has practiced sharp criticism of the Greens and its former minister Leonore Gewessler. Following an interview by Greens boss Werner Kogler with the APA, Schledlitz described the positive balance for the black and green government coalition as a form of "ideologically blinded miscaption". He expressed that the Greens, with their excessive climate measures, burdened families, commuters and rural areas and namely a "stress policy". This assessment is also supported by his party colleague, Christian Hafenecker, who expressed a further accusation regarding a desired "historical debt admission", which will ultimately put a great burden on Austrians.

As part of a press conference on Tuesday, Hafeneck also emphasized that the Greens would try to enforce their political agenda regardless of the needs of the citizens. The planned CO₂ price is considered particularly problematic because it is particularly disadvantaged. Schledlitz also criticized further government measures such as the climate and the "congestion" of the citizens.

criticism of government measures and the role of the FPÖ

The FPÖ sees itself as the only real opposition to green politics. According to Schledlitz, the freedoms warn of a possible radicalization of green politics in the event of a withdrawal of Kogler. As a symbol of the alleged radicalization, he leads to worries that he sees as a representative of "climate fanaticism". The FPÖ announced that it will initiate a referendum via CO₂ tax that it would like to abolish.

In the context of current debates on climate protection and financial policy, the Greens emphasize the need for eco-investment to strengthen the economy. Gewessler plans to contribute a draft law for a climate back in the "current hour". This initiative is seen in response to the global challenge through climate change and supports the goal of the EU to become climate -neutral by 2050

The government program and its challenges

The current government program of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS was presented on February 27th and includes measures to achieve the climate goals by 2040. The central elements of the program are the integration of the UN sustainability goals and the support of the EU Green Deal, which aims to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050. However, critics warn of the possible dismantling of the Ministry of Climate Protection and the road construction projects that are planned, which contradict the climate goals.

  • Introduction of a climate law with binding annual upper limits for overall national emissions.
  • Integration of the CO₂ prize model into the EU ETS-2 system.
  • Promotion of a sustainable circular economy and reduction of regulatory obstacles.

Although the government program offers positive approaches to strengthen international cooperation and to support the transformation strategy for the economy, challenges such as the implementation of the climate goals and acceptance remain in the population. The project to secure biological diversity through active nature conservation measures is critically observed by various environmental organizations.

Overall, the political actors in Austria are faced with the challenge of finding a balanced approach between climate protection and the needs of citizens. It remains to be seen how the political discourses and measures will develop in the coming months, in particular with the FPÖ as a strict critic and the Greens as a driving force for climate coitations.
