Sattelzug tilts in Simmerlach: 51-year-old injured after the accident!
A serious accident occurred on May 20, 2025 on Drautalstraße near Simmerlach, when a 51-year-old woman who steered a tractor-trailer came off the road for an unknown cause. The tractor -trailer with a trailer tipped to the side and came to lie on a dirt road south of the federal road. The alarmed fire brigades from Simmerlach and Oberdrauburg provided immediate help, while the injured driver was brought to the district hospital in Lienz. Their condition is currently classified as indefinite, and considerable damage to property was created on the vehicle. The investigation into the clarification of the cause of the accident continues to be in the course, such as [gailtal-journal.at] (https://gailtal-journal.at/aktuell/naechtlich-unfall-auf-der-b100-sattelzug-kippt-um-51-jehrige-lenkerin- Langer/).
Accidents with heavy goods mobile vehicles (SGKFZ), as in the present case, represent an important challenge in road traffic. An investigation by the Federal Institute for Road Systems (BAST) shows that three main scenarios-accidents, accidents at nodes and lane accidents-together three quarters of all accidents with SGKFZ. This safety problem is further reinforced by the size and weight of the saddle trains.
Statistical evaluation of accidents
The basted accidental events from 2002 to 2015 and found that accidents with SGKFZ decreased by 19% during this period. In comparison, the total number of accidents with personal damage was reduced by 16%, but this decline in all freight mobile vehicles was even more clear with 26%. In 2015, 11,261 accidents with personal injury occurred, and there were particularly affected tractors, which were often related to car accidents. The 524 deaths, which made 15% of all traffic fatalities in Germany, are particularly worrying, as the BAST stipulates in its publications (bast.de.
Another point of the investigation shows that almost two thirds of all accidents concerned tractoring machines with SGKFZ. In addition, cyclists were often involved in these accidents. The accident analyzes illustrate the need to develop different prevention measures for the different types of heavy goods power vehicles in order to further improve safety on the streets.
strategies for accident prevention
The Bast emphasizes that driving assistance systems offer the greatest potential to avoid accidents in the identified main scenarios. In view of the high number of accidents and the associated serious injuries and deaths, the further development of these technologies is of great importance. Statistics show that semitrailers cause particularly more serious accidents, which underlines the need to continuously work on traffic safety.
