Disappointment at the Kaivkl.
The Kaiviertelfest in Salzburg again gave the opportunity to start the semester with a celebration. This event not only attracts tourists, but also many students who are looking for discounts and special offers. The Association of Socialist Students: Inside (VSSTÖ), however, it has found that the promised discounts remained far behind the expectations.
The student representative was particularly disappointing to the discounts granted by the restaurateurs. Instead of significant discounts, they could only determine minimal price cuts. For example, a beer that usually costs 5.40 euros cost 5 euros for students. Luisa Kaiser, the chairwoman of the VSSTÖ, criticized these offers sharply: "Salzburg is one of the most expensive cities for students in Austria anyway, and then such minimal discounts are sold as a great advantage? That is a farce.
barely noticeable "Studimittwoche"
But the dissatisfaction of the students goes beyond the Kaiviertelfest. The VSSTÖ complains that the “Studimittwoche”, which is intended as an opportunity to save, remains hardly noticeable for many. On the website that advertises the “Studimittwoche”, only 23 offers for students are currently listed, which are mostly valid between October and December. These contain discounts in a few bars as well as restaurants such as the “circuitman” and shops from different areas.
The limited offers represent a disappointment for many students. Emperor was concerned: "In addition to the city itself, the economy and the catering trade must also take responsibility and finally offer fair and noticeable benefits for students." The question remains whether the local gastronomy is willing to take these demands seriously and take appropriate measures.
offers from the gastronomy
In the next week, Pühringer will talk to around 20 restaurateurs in a committee meeting about the possibility of "Studimittwoch" discounts. In view of the high prices for food and services, however, he was skeptical about the amount of the discounts. In his opinion, an estate of ten percent on dishes would be very generous, given the current economic situation.
Such discussions are of central importance for students and, if they are implemented into concrete offers, could mean a noticeable improvement in their financial situation. It remains to be seen how many restaurateurs will see and implement the former call for discounts for students, as www.salzburg24.at reports . The situation could develop even further because the student body will bring its voices and wishes more publicly.
