The Salzburgers have the opportunity to coordinate the Salzburg mobility solution. This vote will take place on November 10th in the regions of Flachgau, Tennengau and the city of Salzburg. In order to facilitate the decision to make the decision, the costs and benefits of the mobility solution were analyzed.
In an information brochure that is currently being distributed to 200,000 households in the Salzburg metropolitan area, citizens will find all relevant information on the construction costs, financing and a detailed cost-benefit comparison. This comparison shows a significantly positive result.
The total costs for the mobility solution, which includes the extension of the local railway (S-Link) to Hallein, amounts to 1.9 to 2.8 billion euros. This sum may appear high at first glance, but on closer inspection, there are numerous savings and advantages. This includes lower vehicle operating costs, shorter travel times, lower accident, pollutant and climate costs as well as better optimization of the line buses.
The financing of the Salzburg mobility solution takes place through an agreed framework agreement with the federal government. The federal government has agreed to cover 50 percent of the total costs to Hallein. This invests one billion euros in the Salzburg location. If the mobility solution is not implemented, these funds flow into other projects and are therefore lost for Salzburg.
When planning the mobility solution, reserves of up to 30 percent have already been calculated in order to cushion possible risks. The costs for the construction were therefore increased by a risk surcharge. Overall, the costs of extending the local railway (S-Link) to Hallein amount to 1.9 to 2.8 billion euros.
