Future community: St. Michael starts citizen participation 2025

st. Michael im Lungau takes its citizens Ernst and is planning an important process for 2025 to shape the future development of the community. Various approaches and ideas are in the works under the project name "Future Community" to discuss the needs of the residents and find solutions.

The mayor Manfred Sampl has already announced some details. From spring or summer 2025, the citizen participation process will start, within the framework of which professionals and the municipal council want to develop new perspectives together. A great focus is on the social area. The central question is about how both the youngest and the oldest residents in St. Michael can receive support. According to Sampl, a citizens' council is to be integrated into this process to ensure broad participation.

renovation of the old people's home and educational buildings

Another essential point in the considerations is the future of the old people's home. There are renovations and the new building, which could partially be realized on the site of the former sports field in the center of the community. This measure shows how important the municipality is to care for its older fellow citizens.

In addition, the existing school buildings that are owned by the community must also be considered. A possible change could be that the schools are moving to the site of the old sports field, while the current location could offer modern housing for locals in the future. This consideration aims to address the lack of living space in St. Michael and at the same time improve the educational infrastructure.

The property "Haindlfeld" in focus

The topics of the citizen participation process also includes the new property "Haindlfeld", which the municipality acquired in 2023. It is strategically cheap next to the Haus der Bürgermusik. In discussions with the citizens, the community would like to clarify the type of use for this property. This could play an important role in the future interior design of the place.

"The goal is to work in the medium term and open open," emphasizes Sampl. The plans are designed to achieve concrete results within three to five years. In recent years, the municipality has already invested in numerous projects, for example in the Lungau Arena and the Environmental Center. Now the municipality would like to take a phase of consideration in order to realign itself organizationally and financially before further measures are taken.
