False alarm in the Mittelschule Tamsweg: Mücke triggers fire detectors

On November 12, 2024, an unusual incident caused excitement in the Tamsweg middle school. A fire alarm was triggered by the school's fire alarm system, which the fire brigade immediately put on alert. With siren ringing and full use, the emergency services made their way to school to check the situation.

The fire brigade Tamsweg moved out with its entire fire truck, including four vehicles and 23 firefighters. The police were also on site with a vehicle to provide support. The deputy commander HBI Siegfried Steiner took the lead on site and started exploring the situation.

unusual cause of alarm

The initial examination of the alarm did not reveal any visible dangers. No fire or other risks were found on site. Finally, the forces discovered the reason for the alarm: a fire detector in the attic had reacted because there was a mosquito inside the device. The insect had activated the mechanism, which had led to the false alarm. So a real fire was not the reason for the alarm.

The fire brigade was able to remove the alarm quickly after the fire detector was checked and dismantled. The entire use took about 30 minutes for all the necessary measures to deactivate the alarm. This type of false alarm is rare, but not a complete individual case.

The incident shows how important the preparation and reactionability of the fire brigade is, even if in this case the event was less dramatic than initially assumed.
