Consecration of six new deacons in the Salzburg Cathedral: A look at the candidates
An important event is imminent in the Salzburg Cathedral: On November 24th, the Christ King Sunday, Archbishop Franz Lackner will consecrate six men into constant deacons. The ceremony begins at 2.30 p.m. and is transferred via a livestream so that many believers can follow the ceremony.
The candidates for the consecration of deacons come from various regions: the city of Salzburg, Flachgau, Tennengau and Lungau. Interestingly, almost all future deacons have civilian -air activities. Two of them are already active as a parish assistant in the archdiocese.
The future deacons in detail
An outstanding candidate is Ivica Majic, a 61-year-old construction machine mechanic. Already on September 21st in the Church of St. Andrä, at a special celebration for the Croatian community, he received his consecration of deacon by Bishop Anton Gerard Zerdin. In the future he will work in the Croatian parish of Salzburg.
Another consecration candidate is the 53-year-old religious and elementary school teacher Alfred Slovak from Mariapfarr. It will be used in the parish association Mariapfarr/Mauterndorf/Tweng. In addition, the 65-year-old computer scientist Gerhard Scheffenbichler from Kuchl will look after the parish of Kuchl together with the 54-year-old parish assistant Klaus Leisinger. The 48-year-old Josef Schober, a baker and confectioner from the city of Salzburg, is responsible for the parish of St. Severin and will be active in Salzburg-Hitzling in the future.
The 36-year-old electrical engineer Thomas Spießberger from Neumarkt on Lake Wallersee will work in his home parish. Finally, the 57-year-old Christoph Schoersberger, who works as a parish assistant in the parish of Liefering, remains responsible for this parish.
This consecration is a significant step in the life of the new deacons because they will play an important role in church service.
