Salzburg is investing in solar -powered buses: 3.2 million for the future!
The city of Salzburg brings a breath of fresh air to its traffic strategy! An impressive flight roof with a photovoltaic system for the Albus Salzburg depot is planned. This measure aims to advance emission -free public transport (public transport). Managing Director Hermann Häckl from Albus emphasizes that this sustainable initiative generates up to 850,000 kilowatt hours of electricity that are used directly for loading the buses - an investment of approx. 3.2 million euros, supported by 1.2 million euros in funding from the country, such as reported.
The flight roof will reach an impressive size of 4,163 square meters and should be completed by the end of April 2025 without restricting the operation. This measure is part of a larger plan to improve mobility in the city. At the same time, the budget was decided for 2025, which comprises a record investment budget of 125 million euros. Despite the highest expenses and falling income, it is emphasized that the city is expected to not take out loans by the end of 2025. This was confirmed by Vice Mayor Kay-Michael Dankl and other members of the city government, as in Salzburg 24 can be read.
Mobility in focus
The new budget provides to double the bike budget and to promote the line and clock seals in inner-city bus traffic. These developments are particularly discussed in the discussion about alternative traffic solutions according to the cancellation of the S-Link project. It is planned to find sustainable solutions for traffic calming both in the city center and in the Nonntal to improve mobility for the Salzburg citizens.
While the SPÖ and other parties are happy about the advantages of the new budget, the ÖVP expresses concerns about the financial stability of the city. They warn of an uncontrolled increase in expenses and the growing debt. Despite all these challenges, the city administration remains optimistic that the measures to improve public transport and sustainable mobility are not only necessary, but also feasible.
