New construction project in Salzburg-Lehen: Completion is delayed by one year
The construction of the new educational location "Smart in Lehen" in Salzburg suffers from serious complications, since the commissioned construction company, WRS Energie- und Baumanagement GmbH, has filed for bankruptcy. On September 13, 2024, the bankruptcy proceedings were opened before the Linz regional court. The work at the new elementary school and kindergarten were immediately stopped.
Due to the sudden bankruptcy, the company can no longer fulfill its financial liabilities, which in turn forces the city of Salzburg to dissolve the existing contract with the construction company. On October 2, the insolvency administrator confirmed that a new advertisement of the project is necessary. This leads to a significant delay, since the completion of the two educational rooms is now being pushed back by at least one year.
construction work set - new appointments in sight
The new schedules for the move of the kindergarten and the elementary school have already been announced. The children from kindergarten are expected to move at the earliest at the semester break or at Easter 2026, which means a shift from one year compared to the original plan, which was planned for September 2025. The elementary school will also only be obtained in August or early September 2028, instead of September 2027, as planned first.
Tobias Fusban, the managing director of the Salzburg real estate company (SIG), expressed his regret about the unexpected delay and emphasized the importance of getting the project going as soon as possible. He explained: "The continuation of the project is very priority for us. We are working intensively to prepare the necessary steps for the new tender in order to be able to resume the construction as quickly as possible." With these words it becomes clear that despite the setbacks, the commitment to realize the educational location is unbroken.
The situation is followed carefully because it not only affects the students and their families, but also the future of the education sector in the Salzburg region. Further information on the developments can be found in a detailed report at www.salzburg24.at .
