Festive baptism of lights: Christmas tree from Rennweg illuminates Mirabell Castle

Christmas time is just around the corner, and as it is in Salzburg, a magnificent Christmas tree adorns the Mirabellplatz. On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the spruce from Rennweg on Katschberg shone in full shine for the first time. Mayor Bernhard Auinger of Salzburg and his counterpart Franz Aschbacher from Rennweg had the honor of illuminating the tree, accompanied by festive sounds of a traditional chapel and the singing of a children's choir of the Campus Mirabell elementary school.

The event marks the official start of the pre -Christmas period in the city and has established itself as a loved one. Every year the Christmas tree comes from a different community to symbolize the connection between Salzburg and the surrounding districts. Last year the tree came from, for example.

a cultural Highlight

"The Katschberg is not a border, but a bridge between Carinthia and Salzburg," said Aschbacher during the ceremony. He underlined that the connection between people and cultures is important for the community. "May the tree warm the hearts and seal our friendship," he added.

The traditional Christmas market in front of the Mirabell Castle will also take place again. It offers an atmospheric ambience that invites visitors and locals for a cozy leverage. The market opens its doors and goes until December 24th. The opening times are from Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 9 p.m. The market is open until 3 p.m. on December 24th.

Another positive aspect is that the Christmas tree is also adorned with LED lights energy-saving this year. This sustainable lighting will provide Christmas flair by January 7, so visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere to the fullest. A festive highlight that not only beautifies the sight of Salzburg, but also contributes to an inviting community experience. More information can be found at www.stadt-salzburg.at .
