Discover the diversity: Long Night of the Museums in Salzburg
on the weekend, more precisely on Saturday, October 5, 2024, the long night of the museums will take place in Salzburg. This year, 46 museums and galleries open their doors for a nightly cultural and art program. The aim of this event is not only to give visitors an insight into the variety of exhibitions, but also to offer special programs, especially for children.
Waltraud Langer, the ORF state director Salzburg, is looking forward to a varied program: "You can enjoy art and culture for a whole evening and take part in special tours." New this year is the Salzburg State Studio, which opened the exhibition "100 years of radio" that evening. The "Treffpunkt Museum" on Max Reinhardt-Platz serves as the starting point for the various bus routes and footpaths that drive every 15 minutes between 6 p.m. and midnight. The route plans are available in the official booklet or online.

Another highlight is the Teufelsgraben in Seeham, which impresses with the fascinating Wildkar waterfall and the nearby ball mill. Visitors can take part in a guided torchlight hike that offers insights into the Celtic smiths and interactive sound and space installations on the waterfall.
The House of Nature will also be part of the event and invites you to a walk through the natural sciences on 7,000 square meters. Visitors learn everything about evolution, the climate and the universe as well as impressions of the versatile wildlife. The most exciting attractions include the aquarium and the reptile zoo, where physics and technology can be experienced up close.
Other participating institutions are the fortress museum , the Domquartier , the FIS-LANDESSKEMUSUM in Werfenweng and the Museum Tauernbahn in Schwarzach in Pongau, which is the first railway museum in the state of Salzburg. Particular attention is also paid to the museum for powdermaker in Elsbethen. There, visitors can admire thousands of exhibits from prehistoric to the modern age. A replica water-powered powder-mixed and stamp mill as well as a fully equipped shoemaker workshop and a schnapps distillery round off the presentations.
The long night of museums offers a great experience for everyone who wants to learn more about the rich cultural and scientific past of Salzburg. Guided tours and live painting campaigns are also offered to make the night even more varied. In summary, it can be said that the event offers an excellent opportunity to get to know the numerous facets of the Salzburg museums and their programs better.
