Special post office in Oberndorf: The masses inspire quiet night stamps!
The traditional special post office for Christmas Post has opened in the picturesque Oberndorf near Salzburg for the 64th time. Visitors have the opportunity to provide their Christmas greetings with special stamps and a unique special stamp from the Silent-Nacht district. Martina Prinz, interim director of the Philatelie of the Austrian Post, said: "It is a pleasure that many people perceive this tradition and provide their letters with a stamp and special stamp as before." The opening of this post office, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., immediately attracted numerous visitors to send their handwritten letters into the world, such as meinbezirk.at reported.
This year the most famous Christmas carol, "Silent Night, Holy Night", celebrates its 200th birthday. On this occasion, the Austrian Post has released a special brand with a special complacence stamp, which can be stamped directly in the special post office. This special stamp, which has a nominal value of 0.90 euros, is published in an edition of 1.45 million units. A total of around 200,000 letters are expected to be sent via the special post office, including letters to the Christ Child, which are forwarded to Steyr, where they are answered, so Postbranche.de . The history of the song, which first sounded in the Oberndorf St. Nikolaus Church in 1818, is now legendary and gives this tradition a special shine.
Special attention also applies to the newly designed special stamp "100 years of the foundation stone", which was presented on the occasion of the anniversary of the Stille-Nacht-Kapelle. This chapel, which was built in the ruins of the former church, is a popular place for people from all over the world who celebrate the important Christmas carol, which is sung in over 300 languages, as a message of peace.
