80 years after the liberation: discover new stories in the HDGÖ!

For the 80th anniversary of the Second Republic of Austria, the House of History Austria (HDGÖ) presents an impressive intervention that directs the view of the 1945 change in change. With the opening of the exhibition "Liberation in 1945-open end, fragile future", neo-orange markings set a visually impressive accent in the main exhibition "New times: Austria since 1918". This intervention asks for central issues: What decisions were made and what options did people have in the transition period after the end of World War II? As hdgoe.at , the exhibition in twelve stories tells of the various experiences of this eventful time. Visitors can experience the exhibition free of charge by January 17th.

individual scope for action

One of the most impressive stories in the exhibition is that of Agnes Primocic, a communist resistance fighter who saved several prisoners of the Hallein concentration camp in the spring of 1945. Her motto "Do not stand still if wrongly happens" underlines the courage and determination of those people who occurred in a time great uncertainty for justice. The HDGÖ director Monika Sommer emphasizes that such stories are necessary to reinterpret the complex narration around the years after 1945 and to deepen known knowledge, as well as APAOT noted.

In addition to the main exhibition, current developments in the context of liberation are also discussed in the HDGÖ. The special exhibition "It Sparks! Austria between propaganda and protest" illuminates how the upheaval was treated on the radio, and thus puts other facets of these profound changes under discussion. The events in 1945 were not only the final line under a dark era, but also the beginning of a new time that was characterized by hope and at the same time uncertainty.
