Sabine Payer celebrates impressive eighth World Cup victory in China!
Austria's snowboarders celebrated mixed results in the World Cup at the weekend. While Saturday was a complete success for the domestic team with the individual victories of Sabine Payer and Matthäus Pink and the winning of the Slalom World Cup ball by Arvid Auner, things were less pleasant on Sunday. In the mixed competition, the teams Sabine Payer/Pink and Auner/Claudia Riegler eliminated in qualification. Only Carmen Kainz and Alexander Payer made it into the round of 16, where they clearly lost to Italy 3, as the Krone reported.
However, Sabine Payer was able to shine in the individual competitions. The Carinthian crowned herself in Mylin, China, with her eighth individual victory in the Snowboard World Cup. In the parallel slalom, she prevailed against Japanese Tsubaki Miki with a lead of 0.17 seconds. Payer, who changed her last name a few months ago, had a total of 14 World Cup triumphs with this victory. Her performance was outstanding because it increased from run to run. Claudia Riegler took fifth place as the second best Austrian, while the men's competition was won in an exciting finish by Maurizio Bormolini from Italy, and Benjamin Karl only took second place behind him, like OE24 reportedBenjamin Karl said after the competition about his 50th podium and is optimistic about upcoming competitions: "The hundredstel thriller continues. I am very happy about this podium," he said. The next competitions of the alpineboarders are already on the program in Yanqing, China the following week, where further exciting races will take place.
