S-Bahn S45 in Vienna: Six weeks restrictions and replacement buses!
From the coming week, specifically on April 28, 2025, the S-Bahn line S45 in Vienna will be available to a limited extent for about six weeks. The reason for this is comprehensive maintenance measures between Hernals and Handelskai. During this time, commuters and travelers have to switch to buses because the renovation work is carried out in two phases. In phase 1 from April 28 to June 12, the entire section from Süßenbrunn to Floridsdorf will be affected. From June 12 to June 23, the restriction only affects the section from Heiligenstadt to Handelskai. This informs vienna.at.
ÖBB press spokesman Florian Pirnbacher: "Parts of the route were modernized two years ago. The work that has now been up to date affects the remaining course and rails." A rail replacement traffic is set up by buses that run in time for five to 15 minutes, whereby the exact frequency is depending on the day of the week and the time. The bus ride is expected to take about 20 minutes longer than the usual train ride.
passengers inform
passengers are asked to actively inform themselves about alternative connections. The construction work begins on October 30, 2023 and are carried out in cooperation with other departments of the City of Vienna to ensure effective improvements for the users of public transport. BIG construction sites cause short-term restrictions, but lead to significant improvements for the entire infrastructure, such as wien.orf.at
A large construction site, including the regular project, enables noticeable improvements for the residents and commuters. As a rule, residents are only confronted with restrictions as long as the construction work has been completed and the tracks have been repaired over the next decades. According to Wienerlinien.at, track construction work is usually carried out at times when there is no operation, i.e. at night or during the holidays, whereby punctual improvements are even possible during ongoing operation.
From the end of June 2025, all trains should run again in accordance with the timetable, and the S45 should be fully available again. Until then, passengers are asked to show patience and to adapt to rail replacement traffic.
