Revolution in the cabinet: New Council of Ministers with 7 State Secretaries!
Ballhausplatz, 1010 Wien, Österreich - A political earthquake shakes Austria! The new government, which is already known as the "XXL government", has impressive seven state secretaries in its ranks. The three party leaders Stocker, Babler and Meinl-Reisinger vehemently defended this unusual size on Thursday. According to Stocker, it is not uncommon for so many government members to appear in the second republic. The topics such as climate protection and integration in particular required a wider range of tasks, which led to a larger government team. "Departments must also be leading," argued Babler, while Meinl-Reisinger added: "We take tremendous steps in the right direction", such as oe24.at reported.
The pace has accelerated! The negotiators want to present the government program on Thursday or even on Wednesday. The final list of ministers, consisting of six black, six red and two pink ministers and several state secretaries, could already be on Friday. A crucial step takes place on Sunday: The Pink party base with 2700 members will vote on the program, while the NEOS board decides on the ministerial posts, such as Kleine Zeitung revealed.
New government is being praised
The big day is approaching! The new government will be sworn in on March 3, Rose Monday. It remains unclear whether this appointment was deliberately chosen to avoid carnival service or Ash Wednesday. Stocker comes as a new chancellor while Babler becomes a vice chancellor. The office of a second vice chancellor, as is common with many European coalitions, is not intended in the Austrian constitution. On March 6, Stocker is also facing another significant date: A summit of the EU heads of state and government in Brussels is on the agenda to meet the international shoulder between Trump and Putin.
The list of minister develops like an exciting puzzle. Claudia Plakolm could become Chancellery Minister, while Alexander Pröll is under discussion as State Secretary. Particular attention is also paid to the education, where Christoph Return or even Neos founder Matthias Strolz are traded as a potential minister. "I burn for education," said Strolz. If you ultimately take over the office, you will remain exciting for the time being!
