Rescue of the Bayesian: 80 experts start Maritime's major project!

Vienna, Österreich - eight months after the fall of the luxury yacht "Bayesian" off the coast of Sicily, 80 experts from all over Europe announced their arrival for the upcoming recovery of the wreck. The salvage that is supposed to start on Saturday requires extensive preparations. For example, the mast of the sailing yacht, which is 72 meters high and consists of aluminum, is canceled for safety reasons before the wreck can be brought to the surface. Marcus Cave, director of TMC Marine, the company commissioned with the salvage, emphasizes that the security of the staff, the protection of the marine environment and the safe recovery of the ship have top priority.

The floating crane "Hebo Lift 2", which is equipped with a cover area of 700 square meters, is already anchor before Palermo. It comes from the Adriatic port of Ortona and is used to raise the sunken ship. Another crane, "Hebo Lift 10", is also expected on Sunday, which should contribute to salvage with a weight of 5,695 gross bins and high performance. The entire campaign could extend over a period of 20 to 25 days, which is not uncommon in recesses in such dimensions, since this often consists of several phases: first the ship's increase to the surface, followed by towing to a storage location.

Talks about security measures and environmental protection

The federal authorities have the area in front of Porticello, where the "Bayesian" sank on August 19. A strict ban on swimming, hinge, fishing and sailing applies within a radius of 650 meters around the scene of the accident. The creation, diving and underwater films are also prohibited to ensure both safety during the rescue and to avoid environmental damage.

The total costs for the salvage are estimated at up to 30 million euros. The ship itself was insured through two police, covering the damage of up to two billion euros. Against the background of this tragedy, the public prosecutor hopes to enlighten the causes of quick sinking, in which Mike Lynch, a British software billionaire and owner of the ship, as well as his 18-year-old daughter and two other friends of friends were killed.

Investigations and alleged reasons for the demise

The entire crew was able to save itself to the ship's cook. The captain and two other crew members are investigated. They are accused of ignoring warnings from an approaching storm. It is also examined whether the Italian manufacturer is responsible for the downfall. The event not only raises questions about security in shipping, but also illuminates the relevance of professional rescue measures that serve to keep trade routes open and avoid environmental damage. There are international regulations such as the Brussels Convention of 1910 and the international Convention on the Ships of 1989 that form the framework for such complex recovery actions.

The types of recovery goods are versatile. They range from the recovery of the port to the recovery of sunken ships to the evacuation of wrecks to guarantee safe shipping traffic. In the case of the "Bayesian", the salvage aims to recover valuable owners and freight goods and prevent environmental damage at the same time.
